Key Largo Sunscreen is a critical ally in the ongoing battle against sunscreen pollution, a pervasive threat to the health of our oceans and marine ecosystems. When individuals venture into the ocean, rivers, lakes, or even shower, traces of sunscreen on their skin inevitably make their way into the water, where they can wreak havoc on delicate coral reefs. Shockingly, an estimated 14,000 tons of sunscreen enter the ocean annually, contributing to the deterioration of these vital ecosystems. Scientific research has shed light on the detrimental impact of chemical sunscreens on coral health, demonstrating that exposure to high concentrations of these substances can induce coral bleaching.

Coral bleaching, a phenomenon where corals expel their algae, robbing them of their vibrant coloration and leaving them stark white, serves as a distress signal for the perilous state of our underwater environments. Moreover, severe coral bleaching compromises the corals' immune systems, rendering them susceptible to diseases and eventual death. This cascading effect poses a dire threat to the marine species that call coral reefs home, as well as the economies of regions like the Florida Keys, where vibrant reefs drive tourism and support local livelihoods.
